Fly-D5 Documentation Index

Quick Navigation

1. Preparation

Hardware Checklist:

  • Mainboard: Fly-D5
  • Host Machine:
    Host Machine Compatibility Note
    • Recommended Models: Fly-PI-V3, Raspberry Pi 4/5, and other standard host machines.
    • Unsupported Models: Redmi phones, WiFi dongles, set-top boxes, and various non-standard, modified host machines.
    • Important Note: Using non-standard host machines may lead to system instability, functional abnormalities, or failure to operate normally.
  • Data Cable: One Type-C data cable.
  • Connection Method: Must use Type-C to connect to the host machine.
  • Power Supply: 12V‑24V power adapter (ensure voltage is within range).
  • Computer: Windows PC (or other computer capable of using SSH tools).
Preparation Notes
  • It is recommended to use a reliable, high-quality Type-C data cable. Poor-quality cables may cause unstable connections.
  • The power adapter's wattage must meet the printer's requirements. A minimum of 300W is suggested.
  • Ensure the host machine has a Klipper-related system (e.g., MainsailOS) installed.

2. Usage Guide & Important Notes

Core Principle: Most issues are caused by configuration, connection, or power supply inconsistencies. Below are important notes for the Fly-D5:

3. Firmware Flashing & Device Identification

1. Firmware Explanation & Mode Selection

2. Flashing USB or CAN Firmware

Choose the corresponding firmware based on your connection method:

Step Explanation
  • Device Identification: After flashing, be sure to record the Device ID/UUID, as this is essential information for Klipper configuration.
  • Fallback Option: If flashing fails, you can try flashing the BL firmware first.

4. Hardware Connection & Klipper Configuration

Includes:

  • Explanation of mainboard interface functions.
  • Wiring methods for motors, heaters, sensors, etc.
  • Klipper reference configuration files.

Related Documentation:

Connection Safety Tips
  • Before performing any wiring operations, ensure the power is completely disconnected.
  • Double-check the power polarity. Incorrect connection may damage the mainboard.
  • Refer to your printer frame diagram for motor wiring sequence.
  • Check thermistor connections before heating the heated bed and hotend.

5. Advanced Features & Configuration (Optional)

Optional Features:

  • Camera: Connect a camera via USB for monitoring.
  • Marlin Firmware: Use Marlin firmware as an alternative to Klipper.
  • External Toolboard: Supports multi-toolhead systems.

Related Documentation:

Extended Function Notes
  • It is recommended to configure and test extended functions one by one to avoid changing too many parameters simultaneously.
  • Toolboard connection is suitable for multi-toolhead 3D printers.

6. Technical Documentation & Resources

Includes:

  • Schematic downloads.
  • PCB layout diagrams.
  • 3D model files.
